Kaiser Permanente’s Stroke EXPRESS Improves Stroke Care
How quickly stroke patients receive treatment is the focus of The Permanente Medical Group’s Stroke EXPRESS program, which was highlighted recently in a Modern Healthcare feature.
Stroke EXPRESS – protocols for treating Kaiser Permanente members in Northern California – demonstrates the integrated care model approach of the organization, allowing Permanente physicians to intervene sooner in treating a stroke patient arriving at the Emergency Department.
The Modern Healthcare feature quotes Jeff Klingman, MD, chief of neurology at TPMG, who helped develop Stroke Express; and Mai Nguyen-Huynh, MD, a Kaiser Permanente stroke neurologist and a research scientist who found that stroke patients received blood-clot dissolving medication sooner when a stroke neurologist is brought in early.
