Don Mordecai, MD, highlights availability of Calm app for Kaiser Permanente members
Kaiser Permanente became the first health system to offer Calm, a mediation app, to its members at no cost as an additional way to help manage anxiety brought on by the pandemic, according to a CNBC article.
The article quotes Don Mordecai, MD, a psychiatrist with The Permanente Medical Group and Kaiser Permanente’s national leader for mental health and wellness, who described how the organization has been using Calm in clinical settings to support patients’ mental health prior to expanding its availability to members.
“Anecdotally, the patients we’ve referred to Calm really like it,” Dr. Mordecai told CNBC. “We’ve been quite interested in the potential to use digital apps to see how they can get built into a treatment system like ours.”
The availability of Calm comes as part of Kaiser Permanente’s efforts to expand its digital self-care portfolio, which includes articles, audio activities, and the myStrength mobile app. The myStrength app offers useful tips and personal guidance, whenever — and wherever — members need it most.
