Katherine Saral is the chief legal officer of The Permanente Federation LLC, the national consortium supporting the work of the Permanente Medical Groups. Among her responsibilies, she leads both the legal and compliance portfolios for The Permanente Federation, Permanente Advantage, and The Permanente Foundation.
Prior to joining the Federation in 2019, Saral served as senior counsel for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals (KPHP/H), where she provided legal guidance for regulatory, compliance, and operational issues in Kaiser Permanente’s care delivery system and advised on the regulatory implications of corporate transactions.
Saral started her career with Ropes & Gray LLP, where she practiced health law out of its San Francisco offices. During her tenure there, she advised community hospitals, academic medical centers, pharmaceutical companies, and other health care provider clients on a range of health care regulatory and transactional matters.
Saral holds a Juris Doctor from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law, where she graduated with honors. She also earned a Master of Philosophy degree in English from Oxford University, Magdalen College, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Yale University, where she graduated magna cum laude.
