For more than 70 years, Southern California Permanente Medical Group has practiced ethical, evidence-based medicine — keeping our patients at the center, while also delivering high-quality care with compassion and heart.

Today, we provide care to more than 4.9 million Kaiser Permanente members — a membership that reflects the vibrant ethnic and cultural diversity of the region.

Many leading organizations consistently recognize the quality of our care:

Recognized for excellence

37 Kaiser Permanente hospitals, including 9 in Southern California, are recognized as high performing in one or more types of care by U.S. News & World Report in 2026-27.

High-quality cardiac care

All 40 Kaiser Permanente hospitals were honored with the American Heart Association’s 2026 Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus award.

Exceptional maternity care

29 Kaiser Permanente hospitals are honored by Newsweek on their 2026 America’s Best Maternity Hospitals list. This includes 13 hospitals in Southern California.

5-star health care

For multiple years, Kaiser Permanente has received a 5-star rating for overall quality of medical care from California’s Center for Data Insights and Innovation (formerly known as the Office of the Patient Advocate), a state agency that publishes report cards on health care quality.

Highly ranked Medicare plans

Kaiser Permanente’s California health plans earned 4.5 out of 5 stars in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services annual Medicare Star Quality Ratings for 2026 — a reflection of our commitment to care delivery and outstanding care experience.

Best for value

Kaiser Permanente was recognized by Forbes as the number one brand for value in their inaugural 2025 list, with patients commending our premium care facilities, overall quality of care, and telemedicine offerings.

High safety rankings

23 Kaiser Permanente hospitals, including 12 in Southern California, earned the top mark for patient safety in The Leapfrog Group’s spring 2026 semiannual Hospital Safety Grades. An independent national nonprofit watchdog, Leapfrog is the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections, and injuries.
