Advancing equity and influencing change
To advance Kaiser Permanente’s mission and business priorities, the Federation collaborated with various enterprise areas to host the inaugural Kaiser Permanente Health Equity Conference, which attracted 2,500 live attendees. The event integrated clinical quality with equity, inclusion, and diversity efforts, leveraging our collective expertise to promote dignity, fairness, and respect; drive medical excellence; and ensure that everyone has an equitable opportunity to achieve optimal health.
Engaging with government to ensure the future of health
Kaiser Permanente’s influence was also prominent on Capitol Hill, where Federation representatives and Permanente physician leaders educated federal regulators and congressional staff in Washington, D.C., on the Permanente Medicine approach to using ambient AI in clinical care. Permanente leaders also met with officials from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Office of the National Coordinator Health Information Technology to discuss opportunities to improve health care quality, health IT, and coordinated care.
Permanente physician leadership championed equitable care within the communities that Kaiser Permanente serves, emphasizing the relationship between value-based care and EID. Modern Healthcare recognized Leong Koh, MD, co-lead of Kaiser Permanente’s national health equity workgroup and CEO and president of Northwest Permanente, as one of the key leaders advancing these initiatives by highlighting him as a Diversity Leader in Healthcare.
